A blockchain baby

Choosing a baby name is one of the hardest things. Multiple studies have suggested that names may affect their owners — for better or worse. And who gets the blame? Mom and Dad. So we got an idea.

Let's crowdsource the name on Ethereum.

You get to help pick our baby girls name by donating a small amount of Ether to her College fund.

She will be the first baby named on the blockchain.

How it works?

The voting is handled by a Smart Contract1. You vote by sending a small amount of Ether together with the name to the voting contract.

When the baby is born we’ll send her final name and birthday to the smart contract. This will lock the votes in the voting smart contract forever.

1Smart contracts are small computer programs that run on the blockchain2. They define the rules of the voting with computer code. You can check the code of the Crypto Baby Name smart contract here: http://bit.ly/2yh4Jma

2The blockchain is a secure distributed system that make cryptocurrencies like BitCoin and Ethereum work.

  • The score is defined by the amount of Ether, number of votes and the time of the first vote. This rules are designed into the Smart Contract.
  • We reserve the right not to choose the selected name if the name is offensive or otherwise not appropriate at parent own discretion.
  • The name must be 3 to 10 letters long and contain only the letters of the English Alphabet (ASCII 0x41 - 0x5A). This is enforced by the Smart Contract.
